WELCOME TO ALERTCOMMS

Police Communication to the Community
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Havering Local police information.
Recentl y, there has been a rise in burglaries in the Havering area. While the chances of being burgled in this area are statistically low we know that being burgled can be a distressing experience. While we are taking action to target and arrest those responsible, we remind home owners to take some simple measures which can further reduce the chance of them becoming a victim of burglary.
Most burglaries tend to be opportunistic rather than planned. So if your home does not look secure, seems unlived in, or provides unobserved access, it could be at risk. Understanding what burglars look for when choosing their target will help you identify weak spots in your home's security.
Our 10 Top Tips:
Mark or etch your property with your postcode, house or flat number or the first three letters of your house name.
Register items with a serial number at:
Do not leave your car keys or ID documents near doors, letterbox or windows.
Always check who's at the door and don't open it if you feel anxious.
Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you are only going out for a few minutes.
Keep your valuables out of sight.
Leave some lights on if it will be dark before you get home.
Install a visible burglar alarm.
Always keep sheds and outbuildings locked.
Cancel milk or other deliveries if you will be away for days or weeks at a time.

Volunteer Police Cadets Need YOU!

If you want to help change lives, develop your skills and have fun, then we have the perfect opportunity for you. The Metropolitan Police Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) is open to young people aged 14 to 19 years. Cadets are drawn from London's diverse communities including those vulnerable to crime or social exclusion. In order to open up cadets for more young people we need to increase the number of adult volunteers. There are numerous opportunities including evenings, weekends, and daytime opportunities to assist the coordinators ensure the units run
smoothly.

We are holding an event on 1st May at 6pm at New Scotland Yard, St James' Park, for anyone interested in volunteering with us. On the evening you will have the chance to meet some of our amazing cadets, find out about the recruitment process, ask any questions you may have and speak to existing volunteers who can tell you exactly what to expect when volunteering with the Volunteer Police Cadets.
Pre registration is required so if you would like to attend please email
cadets@met.police.uk or visit www.met.police.uk/cadets for more information about the Volunteer Police Cadets.
