ODD JOBS?
If you are over 50 and have small odd jobs which need doing but you find it difficult to do, the Age Concern Havering have volunteers who can help. For more information please contact Ken Miller on 01708 479868 at Age Concern Havering on WEDNESDAYS between 10.30am and 2pm. As the group are a charity they do ask for a small donation for the work, depending upon the size of the job.

- Royal Association for Deaf People. First Tuesday of the month. 10am-4pm.
- Age Concern Havering Dementia Service. Second Tuesday of the month. 2pm-4pm.
- Papworth Trust (support for people with a wide range of disabilities). Every other Wednesday. 10am-12noon.
- Alzheimer’s Society. First Friday of the month. 12-3.30pm.

HELP NOT HOSPITAL
This is a new scheme run by the British Red Cross, which aims to provide time-limited support to people after a personal crisis or illness, giving them the confidence and independence to continue with daily life. It helps people with things like essential shopping, collecting prescriptions, light housework or just general conversation and companionship to make it easier for people to be at home after a difficult time. If you know someone who you think could benefit from this very important service, please contact HnH@redcross.org.uk. Alternatively people can be referred in to it by their GP, other health professional, carer or social worker.

VICTORIA ROAD
It is hoped that an application can be made to the organisation Transport for London for funding to make environmental and car-parking improvements in Victoria Road inside the ring road, and consultation has been ongoing with businesses and residents in the area about how best this could be done. Many thanks to the resident who reported the loose hoarding on the approach to the railway bridge near where Salisbury Forge used to be. We reported the matter urgently to Network Rail.
SUPPORTING OUR ARMED FORCES
Havering Council and a number of other local organisations have signed the Armed Forces Community Covenant to promote public understanding and awareness of the issues affecting the Armed Forces Community in the borough and to help the Armed Forces achieve wider community engagement here. For more information on the covenant please see the Ministry of Defence website.

Christmas lights
Lights fantastic
Families turned out in their thousands for this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-on at Romford Market, last night (Thursday 15 November). Postman Pat® and Jess the Cat, along with Twist and Pulse, Hope Murphy, and Santa headlined the fun night of entertainment, which ended with a firework finale.
